How do I get a garden plot?

Submit an application through our online form. Plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Annual membership includes your plot, soil, tools, and water access. We’ll notify you by email once a plot is available.

What does the membership include?

Your membership includes an individual 8′ × 4′ × 2′ raised bed with organic soil and compost, access to basic gardening tools, water via shared hose, use of the communal composting area, and invitations to all garden events and workshops.

Can I use pesticides or chemical fertilizers?

No. Summerhill Community Garden is an organic garden. We require all members to use only natural and organic methods. This protects our shared soil, water, pollinators, and the health of our community. We offer workshops on natural pest management.

When is the garden open?

The garden is open to members daily from dawn to dusk. Shared community workdays are typically held on the second Saturday of each month. Check our events calendar for specific dates and times.

Do I need gardening experience?

Not at all! We welcome gardeners of all experience levels. Seasoned members are happy to share tips, and we host regular workshops covering everything from basic planting to composting. The garden is a place to learn and grow — literally.

How can I volunteer without getting a plot?

There are many ways to help! Join us for monthly community workdays, help maintain shared garden spaces, assist with events and workshops, mentor new gardeners, or support us financially through our donation page. Every contribution makes a difference.

What happens to the garden in winter?

During the cooler months, some members grow cold-hardy crops like kale, lettuce, and root vegetables. We also use winter for garden maintenance, soil preparation, and planning for the spring season. Community workdays continue year-round.

Is there parking available?

Street parking is available on Connally Street and surrounding blocks. The garden is also accessible by MARTA and is a short walk from the King Memorial station. We encourage walking, biking, or transit when possible.

What are the garden rules?

Maintain your plot regularly. Use only organic and natural methods (no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers). Share water resources and clean up after use. Attend at least two community workdays per season. Respect fellow gardeners’ plots and shared spaces. Harvest only from your assigned plot unless shared.
